I went to KGH yesterday and had a consultation with a thoracic surgeon, he was really nice and I felt so comfortable as he explained everything. I was thinking… “if you need to have someone remove something from your chest, this is the guy you want!”
The consultation didn’t bring much good news or new information, it was more confirmation and diagnosis. He showed me the Tumour on the scans (it is not small at 2-3″) and it is sitting on my pericardium (sack around your heart) and pushing into my right lung which is the main source of pain. The tumour seems relatively contained and the fact that it is on my pericardium is not serious and does not mean the tumour is “involved” with my heart.
The Dr. has scheduled an needle Biopsy (done under an CT scan) that should happen within two weeks. He feels this tumour is either Lymphoma or Thymoma, pathology will use the biopsy to determine which it is. These two tumours are treated very differently, so completing this diagnosis stage is the current priority.
I have also been scheduled for another CT scan of my lower abdomen, if it is lymphoma they will want to have these pictures of my other lymph nodes.
